The H.C.G. Inspector General checks the H.C.G. Central Services at the order of H.C.G. Commandant and supervises the activity of H.C.G. Regional Services according to his responsibilities.
H.C.G. Inspector General Rear Admiral HCG KARAGEORGOS George
He was born in 1971 in Leontari, Karditsa, where he spent his student years.
He is a graduate of the Department of Political Science and International Studies of Panteion University of Social and Political Sciences.
He entered the Hellenic Naval Academy in 1992 and graduated in 1994 with the rank of Ensign HCG (Hellenic Coast Guard).
As a junior officer he served at Central Port Authority of Piraeus. After graduating from the HCG Special Missions School in 1995 he was placed in the Special Missions Division of the Central Port Authority of Piraeus with the duties of Training and Operations Officer and remained until 2000. During this time he graduated from, Hellenic Police Special Forces School (Special Anti-terrorist Unit) in1995, Antiterrorist school (Hellenic Police Academy) in 1997, Instructor of Self defense-Self protection and Arms use technique (Hellenic Police Academy) in 1997, Organized Crime (Hellenic police Academy) in 1999, Hostage Negotiation (Hellenic Police Academy) in 2000, as well as the US Coast Guard (USCG) Ship boarding Operations School.
From 2000 to 2003 he served in the Olympic Games Security Directorate and the HCG Office of the Olympic Director. In 2001 he graduated from the initial training school for Helicopter Pilots of the Army Aviation School. In January 2004 he received formal type rating training at the helicopter manufacturer, AS 365 N3 Dauphin, which then acquired by HCG. After the completion of the training he was placed in the HCG Air Means Unit, where he served until 2019, initially as a Helicopter pilot then as a Standardization-Evaluation Officer, Operations Officer and from 2013 to 2015 as Commander of HCG Helicopter Squadron. From 2015 to March 2019 he served as Commander of the HCG Air Means Unit. He is instructor-examiner pilot and has graduated from, sea survival training school, helicopter underwater egress training school, crew resources management school (CRM) and other training schools intended for the aviation subject.
He has attended a seminar for senior executives officers at the George C. Marshall European Center for Security Studies (Germany).
He is member of the board of directors at CENTER OF SECURITY STUDIES.
In April 2019, as Commodore, he was placed as Director of HCG Branch A’ (Security & Law Enforcement). He also had, in parallel, duties as Supervisor of JRCC (Join Rescue Coordination Center) and HCG Operations Center.
On 03-6-2020 he was promoted to the rank of Rear Admiral HCG and remained in the position of Director of HCG Branch A’ (Security & Law Enforcement).
On 01-04-2021, he was placed as Inspector General of HCG.
He has been awarded all the awards, medals and commemorations provided for his rank and position.
He speaks English.
He is married to Marianthi Haireti and they have two Sons university students.
