Commandant of the Hellenic Coast Guard Vice Admiral HCG Theodoros KLIARIS

He was born in Trikeri of N. Magnesia and spent his student years in Volos.

He entered the Hellenic Naval Academy in 1986 and graduated in 1987 with the rank of Ensign HCG.

A graduate of the Merchant Marine Academy for Marine Deck Officers of Kymi, he traveled by seagoing ships as Master III Grade.

He has attended a series of trainings and seminars on subjects of Search and Rescue - Ship Inspection - Marine Environment Protection - International Safety Management Code (ISM CODE) etc.

During his career he served as Commander of the 4th Regional Administration HCG based in Volos, Harbor Master of the Central Port Authority of Volos, Director of the National Center for Maritime Borders, Maritime Attaché at the Hellenic Maritime Attaché in Derban, South Africa, Harbor Master of the Port Authority of Katakolo as well as for a number of years at the Joint Search and Rescue Coordination Center as Maritime Safety Officer and Watch Chief.

He also served as Director in the Executive Office of the Minister, in Directorates of the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Insular Policy, in the Central Port Authority of Kavala, in the Ship Inspection Directorate as well as as Commander in the Patrol Vessel L.S. 040.

On 19-03-2015 he was promoted to the rank of Rear Admiral HCG and took over the duties of Commander of the 1st Regional Administration of HCG based in Piraeus.

On 18-03-2016 he was promoted to the rank of Vice Admiral HCG and took over the duties of First Deputy Chief of HCG.

On 08-10-2019, following a decision of the Government Council for Foreign Affairs and Defense, he assumed the duties of Chief of the Hellenic Coast Guard.

He has been awarded all the awards, medals and decorations provided for his rank and position.

He speaks English.

He is the father of a boy.
